What is osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a holistic approach to help improve the way your body works, especially for conditions related to the back and spine. Osteopathy is not just about relieving symptoms, but aims to stop a problem recurring by taking away those reasons that allowed it to occur in the first place

How does it work?

Through hands-on treatment, gentle joint and soft tissue manipulation corrects and normalises imbalances. This helps the body return to a more efficient way of functioning with an often complete reduction of symptoms. Osteopaths are also able to provide advice on posture, exercises and lifestyle modifications that will aid your recovery.

Who is it for?

Osteopathy is suitable for almost anyone, including babies, children, pregnant women and the elderly.

What can Osteopaths treat?

Osteopathy can be very effective for the treatment of most musculo-skeletal problems found in any age group, including:

  • back and neck pain
  • joint pain and injuries
  • problems associated with degenerative changes / arthritic pain
  • headaches

Cranial osteopathy is a very gentle and effective treatment for babies and children. You can find out more at the Foundation for Paediatric Osteopathy and at the Sutherland Society.
